CTSS Capability Kit DefinitionsOn This Page
Related links:IntroductionCoordinated TeraGrid Software and Services (CTSS) Capability Kits are collections of software related by user-oriented HPC tasks. If a Resource Provider implements a Capability Kit, the RP guarantees all the kit's use cases can be accomplished on the resource. This page describes each Capability Kit. See the CTSS page to find TeraGrid resources by kit or to see what Capability Kits are available for a particular Resource Provider. To see a list of use cases for each Capability Kit, find CTSS resources by task. TeraGrid Core IntegrationThe TeraGrid Core Integration kit defines a minimal set of capabilities that allow coordinated operation of the TeraGrid system by TeraGrid staff. It also provides TeraGrid users with a set of fundamental hooks to conduct basic operations on TeraGrid systems in consistent ways. In both areas, the capabilities are focused on providing a layer of integration to otherwise diverse and specialized systems. Remote LoginThe Remote Login kit defines capabilities that allow you to log in to a system from a remote location of the Internet, obtain a command-line interface, and issue commands via that interface. These commands may configure your workspace, interact with other remote systems, or submit computational tasks to the local scheduling system for execution. Remote ComputeThe Remote Compute kit defines the capabilites that allow you to submit and manage compute jobs remotely. Usually, you will submit jobs locally. However, remote compute capabilities enable science gateways, workflow applications, and advanced scientific applications. Data MovementThe TeraGrid Data Movement kit defines the core capabilities that allow the transfer of data on and between TeraGrid resources. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Some example use cases are:
Data ManagementIn addition to the Data Movement kit, the Data Management kit defines capabilities for the storage and managment of data primarily through the Storage Resource Broker (SRB). See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Some example use cases are:
TeraGrid Wide Area GPFS File SystemsThe Wide Area Parallel File System defines the capabilities that allow you to write and read files to a high performance, parallel file system mounted on multiple TeraGrid resources. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit The use case is: reading and writing files with standard I/O, MPI-I/O, and HDF calls to a high-performance parallel file system mounted on multpile TeraGrid resources. Application Development & Runtime SupportThe Application Development & Runtime Support kit defines capabilites that allow you to determine if a Resource Provider is suitable for your computational needs. This includes the capability to determine if software tools or libraries are available on a system, compile applications written in C or Fortran, and run application scripts. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Some example use cases are:
Science Workflow SupportThe Science Workflow Support kit provides software capabilities that make it easier to run science workflow applications and tools on a TeraGrid system. This allows you to automate computational tasks to improve productivity and to open new modes of exploration. Science Workflow combines information management and automation techniques to manage the automated execution of interrelated tasks. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Example use cases are:
Parallel Application SupportThe Parallel Application Support kit defines similar capabilities as the Application Development & Runtime Support kit with a more narrowed focus on parallel applications. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Example use cases are:
Distributed Parallel Application SupportThe Distributed Parallel Application Support kit defines capabilties that allow fast communication between parallel subjobs, making it possible to run simulation and analysis applications across multiple TeraGrid systems. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Example use cases are:
Data Visualization Support KitThe Data Visualization Support Kit defines capabilities that enable users to perform basic visualization tasks, and provides software for the development of visualization tools and applications. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Example use cases are:
Local HPC Software Availability KitThe Local HPC Software Availability Kit provides capabilities that enable users to discover non-CTSS software that is available on local resources. This kit is not yet formally defined by the Software Integration group. See what resources have this kit installed See what software and services are in this kit Example use cases are:
